A Carbon Reduction Plan is the document required under Procurement Policy Note PPN 006 for bidders on UK central government contracts above £5 million. It sets out your current Scope 1, Scope 2 and a defined set of Scope 3 emissions, a baseline year, a commitment to net zero by 2050 and the carbon reduction measures you have in place. We prepare it in the required template and keep it current each year.

Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) applies to quoted companies, large unquoted companies and large LLPs in the UK. If you meet two of three thresholds — over 250 employees, turnover above £36 million or a balance sheet above £18 million — you must disclose energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, an intensity ratio and energy efficiency measures in your annual report. We calculate the figures and draft the disclosure.

Scope 1 covers direct emissions from sources you own or control, such as gas heating and fleet fuel. Scope 2 covers purchased electricity, heat and steam. Scope 3 covers indirect emissions across your value chain, including purchased goods and services, business travel, employee commuting, waste and use of sold products. We calculate all three using the GHG Protocol and UK Government (DEFRA) conversion factors.

Most organisations complete a Scope 1 and 2 baseline in two to four weeks once energy and fuel data is supplied. A full Scope 3 assessment, including supplier data collection, usually takes six to ten weeks depending on the size of the supply chain. NetScope shortens the data-gathering stage in later years because prior-year data and emission factors are already in the platform.

Offsetting is credible when it follows reduction, not instead of it. We only use projects certified under Verra (VCS), Gold Standard or the UK Woodland Carbon Code, and we provide serial numbers and retirement certificates for every credit so the claim can be audited. Residual emissions should be the only part of your footprint you offset.
