Members of the British public are keen to see the government and employers encourage lifestyle changes to cut emissions, according to a new report. Climate Assembly UK, made up of 108 members of the public chosen to represent the UK population’s interest on green issues, want the government to promote a greener economic recovery. Ninety-three per cent of the members said that there should be more done to encourage lifestyle changes to cut emissions as lockdown eased. It is believed that lockdown measures have led to a record fall in Co2 levels, as working from home and factory shutdowns saw carbon emissions fall. Now members of Climate Assembly UK have put their voice to a letter which will be sent by MPs to Prime Minister, Boris Johnson. Ibrahim, a Climate Assembly UK member from Surrey said: “It was quite clear that many of the assembly members felt this period should be taken as an opportunity to encourage a green economic recovery with a focus on promoting cleaner, greener lifestyles, and an economy that prizes sustainability over short-term benefits that would harm the planet.” The MPs who put together the Climate Assembly sent their letter to Boris Johnson on Monday hopeful that the coronavirus crisis has made the public more receptive to green campaigning. The letter said: “In recent months, the UK public has demonstrated its capacity to respond positively and responsibly when they understand the risks posed to them by an invisible threat that demands collective action. We believe that a similar approach, based on securing public support for ambitious policies through open dialogue around the science, is a sound basis for the net zero journey.” At iOffset our mantra has always been Reduce, Offset and Share. We encourage individuals and businesses to work together to help offset emissions, from as little as £3 a month. And for businesses looking to make a difference our innovative Offset as a Service (OaaS) enables emissions of any product, service or transaction to be offset in full or part”. Find out how here.
