Marylebone Cricket Club

Net Zero Group’s work with Marylebone Cricket Club

Marylebone Cricket Club is the world’s most active cricket club, the owner of Lord’s Ground (the Home of Cricket) and the guardians of the Laws of the game. The MCC has signed up to the UN Sport for Climate Action Framework and hence has a Net Zero target of 2040. They employed Net Zero Group in 2023 to help them broaden the scope of their carbon footprint and strategise their route to decarbonise their operations.

Net Zero Group’s support

Net Zero Group worked with the MCC to create a baseline report for 2023 and develop the “A Journey to Net Zero” strategy. Building on this, Net Zero Group produced an upstream scope 3 report for the year 2023, enabling the MCC to understand its supply chain emissions, identify hotspots, and map out its path to Net Zero. This work has contributed to the “Batting for a Better Future” campaign, positioning Lord’s Cricket Ground as one of the leading cricket venues in terms of sustainability. The combined use of software and consultancy services has allowed the MCC to surpass expectations, enhancing its carbon reporting strategy and supporting the MCC’s ongoing decarbonisation efforts.

Achievements

  • Increased waste recycling percentage by 37% in 2023
  • Reduced electricity consumption by 5.9% in 2023
  • Won Sustainability Campaign of the Year at the Business of Cricket awards in 2023
