A leading government advisory group has said that UK businesses could be incentivised to encourage a reduction in carbon emissions. With the global lockdown caused by the Covid-19 crisis, carbon emissions are expected to fall to their lowest ever levels since records began. Now the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) is recommending that funds put aside for economic recovery should go to companies which make a commitment to reducing emissions. The CCC Chairman, Lord Deben, said: “The Covid-19 crisis has shown the importance of planning well for the risks the country faces. “Recovery means investing in new jobs, cleaner air and improved health. The actions needed to tackle climate change are central to rebuilding our economy. “The government must prioritise actions that reduce climate risks and avoid measures that lock-in higher emissions.” The Government is committed to reducing emissions to Net Zero and with the UK set to host a vital global climate conference in 2021, there will be increased focus on the nation’s collective efforts to create a greener society. Lord Deben has encouraged the Government to consider setting a global example in the eventual aftermath of Covid-19. One way in which businesses can move towards reducing their emissions is by subscribing to iOffset’s Business Packages. iOffset helps both individuals and companies reduce their carbon footprint by subscribing to one of a range of products which will offset the carbon footprint of that business. iOffset’s packages are based on modelling which has been calculated by one of the world’s leading carbon emissions experts, Professor Mike Berners-Lee. Speaking about the push for businesses to demonstrate their commitment to reducing their carbon emissions, iOffset founder Mike Hammond said: “The environmental impact of Covid-19 enforced lockdown has been significant, and we join the Committee on Climate Change in urging the government to reward those businesses who are keen to rethink their carbon emissions. “It would be a huge boost if that momentum continues once this crisis is over not least as people want to do something but didn’t previously know what or how to take action against climate change. “Our platform is based on the three principles of, Reduce, Offset and Share. Fundamentally, we all need to reduce our carbon footprint and take action now. iOffset provides consumers with simple and sustainable suggestions to reduce their CO2 footprint and make a difference.” Whether you are an individual or a business you can sign-up to one of iOffset’s affordable carbon streaming packages today – click here https://ioffset.co.uk/subscribe
