Excalon
Support in measuring and reducing the footprint of construction projects
Net Zero Group’s work with Excalon
Excalon, is a leading infrastructure contractor specialising in providing the provision of service to the utilities industry.
Based in Salford, Greater Manchester, Excalon has over 20 years’ of experience as a major contractor and commenced its environmental sustainability journey when they partnered with Net Zero Group.
To win, manage and ultimately fulfil contractual obligations Excalon were required to report on the carbon emissions of their projects once completed. Excalon lacked a solution to collect materials purchased, transport and waste data at a project level.
Challenges
- Contractual requirement to capture and report Scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions per project
- Limited time and resources to manually process orders & report emissions
- Access to the origin of their orders yet no visibility of delivery data or associated emissions
- The carbon footprint of their products and waste was unknown
Net Zero Group’s support
The team at Net Zero Group developed the “NetScope Construction Project tool” to report and track the carbon footprint of individual construction projects in real-time (at the point of procurement).
- Utilising NetScope project tool meant vast amounts of time was saved in processing order data.
- Excalon were able to input the origin and destination of their orders into NetScope and it did the rest.
- The embodied carbon conversion for each product and type of waste disposed of was sourced.
- NetScope allows Excalon to track scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions for the business as well as each project.
Achievements
- Contractual obligations met
- Contracts won & retained
- Accurately tracked and reported the carbon footprint of Excalon’s projects, with over 11,000 orders analysed.
- Automated the property footprint for Excalon’s headquarters.
- Tracked the fleet emissions and fuel consumption from Excalon’s HGVs.
- Engaged external stakeholders in sustainability by co-hosting a workshop on carbon reporting and reduction.
- Developed a carbon scan tool for our suppliers to give them an introduction to carbon reporting.
Testimonial
“We have collaborated with Net Zero Group to build an industry-specific footprinting tool that analyses the carbon emissions of our UK-wide construction projects. As a leading infrastructure contractor specialising in the provision of services to the utilities industry, it is essential that we understand the associated footprint of the materials, waste and transport resulting from our projects. Using this data-led carbon intelligence, we will be able to meet our Net Zero goals. I appreciate all the hard work the Net Zero Group team have put into this project.”
