The project compromises of 4,691 ha of land with a silvapastural system including forest plantations for carbon dioxide sequestration from the atmosphere.

The project will result in a significant contribution to the sustainable development of Uruguay and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), mainly through the following social, environmental and economic benefits.

Social

Creation of jobs among local communities for sustainable forest management of eucalyptus plantations (71% of staff hired is made up of people from the local communities) and implementation of a Social Action Plan to increase knowledge of forest activities in local communities. Supporting SDG 4 and 8.

Environment

Prevention of further land degradation, FSC certified sustainable forest management system and the creation of carbon sinks that absorb CO2 from the atmosphere. Supporting SDG 12 and 13.

Economic

A combination of land use for grazing activities with afforestation to increase the production of grass and benefit cattle activity. Supporting SDG 15. Issuance Year: 2018
