Excalon, is a leading infrastructure contractor specialising in the provision of services to the utilities industry. 

Based in Salford, Greater Manchester, Excalon has over 20 years’ experience as a major contractor and commenced their journey to Net Zero in 2021 when they partnered with Net Zero Group. 

The team at Net Zero Group developed the “NetScope Construction Project tool” to report and track the carbon footprint of individual construction projects in real time (at the point of procurement).

The Problem Statement

In order to win, manage and ultimately fulfil contractual obligations Excalon were required to report on the carbon emissions of their projects once completed. Yet they lacked a solution to collect the data in relation to materials purchased & transport & delivery data at a project site level and going back retrospectively was extremely challenging and time consuming.

Limited time and resources to process orders & manual report emissions 
Access to the origin of their orders yet no visibility of delivery data or associated emissions 
The carbon footprint of their products and waste was unknown

Net Zero Group’s support to solve these challenges

Net Zero Group’s project tool allowed Excalon to achieve its goals:

Utilising NetScope meant vast amounts of time was saved in processing order data.
Excalon were able to input the origin and destination of their orders into NetScope and it did the rest.
The embodied carbon conversion for each product and type of waste disposed of was sourced and is not automatically applied in NetScope. 
NetScope allows Excalon to track scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions for the business as well as each project.

Excalon, a Salford-based excavating company, has been a partner of Net Zero Group since 2021. Working collaboratively Net Zero Group developed the “NetScope Construction Project tool” to report and track the carbon footprint of their projects.

Challenges

The business was asked to report carbon footprints for projects retrospectively but lacked visibility into the emissions from materials and transport at the project site level. Challenges established:
